Sport Fishing Trip
Sportfishing in Los Cabos is a year-round activity, and specific seasons highlight the wealth of species here.
Los Cabos is one of the world’s best sportfishing destinations — more marlin and swordfish are caught here than anywhere else in the world. Catch and release is the general rule and world-famous sport fishing tournaments, such as Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin and East Cape Offshore derbies, are held here annually.
With its great geographical conditions, Baja California Sur offers professionals and amateurs of this sport a long coastline with abundant fish during all seasons.
There are experienced service providers with professional equipment for those on a budget as well as for those after luxury.
To plan your trip right, you’ve got to know the prime-time fishing seasons. Fall and winter are excellent for all-around action. Monstrous sword-billed specimens of black and blue marlin run July through October, with average catches of six to 12 marlin a day during peak season. July through November, dorado (aka mahimahi and dolphinfish) can be readily caught. Yellowfin tuna hit hard September through January, and wahoo and sailfish round out the mix of offerings, with the warm waters of the late summer and early fall providing the best results.
Bottomfishing for jacks, grouper, roosterfish and snapper can take place all year; and hammerheads, threshers and makos can be found in the winter and spring.
LOS CABOS FISHING TOURNAMENTS

Six main tournaments hit the Los Cabos shores in the year: Stars & Stripes Tournament in June, Los Cabos Billfish Tournament in October, Cabo Tuna Jackpot in November and the three local Bisbee’s circuit tournaments — the Bisbee’s East Cape, Los Cabos Offshore and the Bisbee’s Black & Blue. The latter takes place in late October; and payouts can exceed $3.5 million. Stop by dockside with a cool beverage in hand to watch the weigh-ins as the competing boats return.
