• The Government of Baja California Sur and the Los Cabos Tourism Board have announced a new air bridge with Europe, beginning operations in November this year.
  • The new air route will operate with two regular flights from November to April, each with a capacity for 310 passengers.
  • The goal of this new connection is to attract more than 16,000 German tourists per year, one of the most important emerging markets for Los Cabos.

Los Cabos sets its sights high, as the premier tourist destination in Baja California Sur is pleased to announce its new air connection with Europe, through a direct flight from Frankfurt, Germany, in strategic alliance with the leading luxury airline for transcontinental flights: Condor Flugdienst. This new air connection with Germany will commence in November 2024, solidifying one of the most relevant emerging markets for Los Cabos.

This milestone was announced in Mexico City at a press conference led by the director of Training and Tourism Culture of SETUE, Juan Carlos Cañedo, who attended on behalf of the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Baja California Sur, Maribel Collins; the Managing Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board, Rodrigo Esponda; the President of the Board of Directors of the Los Cabos Hotel Association, Mauricio Salicrup, and the CEO of the Pacific Airport Group (GAP), Raúl Revuelta Musalem.

With the launch of the new air route, Los Cabos reinforces its position as one of Mexico’s tourist destinations with the best international connectivity, now offering direct flights to the United States, Canada, and Spain. Additionally, last year the destination opened 7 new domestic routes connecting with 16 Mexican airports; 7 international routes to connect with 30 US airports; and 3 routes in Canada to include a total of 11 Canadian airports, along with 12 flights between Mexico City and Madrid.

The Frankfurt-Los Cabos flight will have two regular weekly frequencies from November to April, with a capacity for 310 passengers per flight. It is estimated to move 16,000 visitors a year, which would mean a 490% increase in German tourists, who are expected to contribute an economic influx of 1 billion dollars annually to the destination, further establishing Germany as the third most important international market for Los Cabos, following the United States and Canada.

Furthermore, this new air bridge with Europe will promote more inclusive tourism to the destination, as the Condor airline offers economy, premium, and business travel packages, opening the door for various profiles of European tourists to visit, especially in winter, this significant tourist gem in the northwest of Mexico, where a wide range of experiences opens up a universe of possibilities beyond sun and beach.

Juan Carlos Cañedo, expressed the state government's pride in expanding the destination's connectivity, noting that this is the first regular airline to establish a direct connection with the state from Germany. “This new air bridge opens the door for Germans to enjoy unique experiences that combine nature, gastronomy, and culture, all in a setting of safety and quality service," stated the state official during the announcement.

Rodrigo Esponda, Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board, commented that efforts to reach this milestone in the region began in 2019. “Since then, we have coordinated logistical and strategic details. Although the Covid-19 pandemic paused the efforts, they were successfully resumed, and today we announce this historic flight not just for Los Cabos but for the entire state as it will promote more tourist arrivals to Baja California Sur,” he emphasized.

Esponda highlighted that the collaboration between the public and private sectors has been crucial in achieving this feat and will be even more so in the future, to ensure the right investments that will lead Los Cabos on the path to success, as has been the case so far. He also mentioned that the collaboration with Condor involves shared responsibilities in marketing and promoting the destination to amplify Los Cabos' visibility among German tourists.

The President of the Board of Directors of the Los Cabos Hotel Association, Mauricio Salicrup, celebrated that the destination “already shines with a healthy hotel occupancy and an unmatched luxury offering, so this new air route does nothing but accentuate and consolidate our appeal, and opens the doors to visitors seeking exclusivity and authentic experiences in one of Mexico’s finest destinations.”
