With the New Year just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about our 2020 New Year resolutions. Many of us will go for the classics: fitness, healthy eating, more travel, and some of us will go for something more specific.

Regardless, sticking to your New Year’s resolution is a task in itself and often gets left behind by March. As 2019 comes to a close, one common focus for people is reducing the amount of time spent in front of a screen. Although a digital detox is a great resolution, it may be challenging to actually implement, and this is where your favourite sunny spot down in Baja California Sur comes into play.

If Los Cabos was already on your list for your 2020 holiday, this will hopefully inspire you to get there even sooner in the year. Right in the middle of the tourist corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo lies Grand Velas Resort who has answered your calls and implemented a strategy to help you master that digital detox. With picturesque views, every which way, letting go of your screens in Los Cabos is quite the challenge but holidays should be about connecting with your surroundings and loved ones and Grand Velas is here to remind you of this with a digital detox program.

With nightly rates starting at $355 USD, the resort invites all guests to power down, disconnect from the world and focus on enjoying quality time with one another. When guests arrive at the resort, the concierge "cleanses" their suite by removing the flat-screen television from the room and replacing it with classic board games and then whisking away their personal electronic devices to a safe. Guests opting to participate in the digital detox program can trade-in their electronics for less connected activities such as a biking, ecological or snorkelling tour and wellness activities such as facials or massage.

In order to receive their electronics back, guests must ‘earn’ a total of four activity bracelets by participating in one activity for each of the days of the detox. At first, it may sound like a big commitment and slightly scary to be without your devices for this long. However, if this is a resolution you are serious about and need some encouragement to stick it through, this is an amazing way to do it. You may surprise yourself and find that you’re not even missing your screens when you’re immersed in the scenery of Los Cabos.
